WHERE IS WESTOVER CHRISTIAN ACADEMY LOCATED?
The school is located on US Business 58W, approximately 5.5 miles west of downtown Danville. The campus is located in the facilities of Westover Baptist Church - 5665 Riverside Drive - Danville, Virginia.

WHAT IS THE CURRENT ENROLLMENT AT WCA?
Total enrollment is approximately 470 students with average class size around 15 students.
WHAT TIME DOES THE SCHOOL DAY BEGIN?
School begins at 8:00 a.m. for students in grades K5-12 with dismissal at 2:40 p.m. for 1st-5th, 2:45p.m. for K5, and 2:50p.m. for 6th-12th.
For students in K2 through K4, classes begin at 8:30 a.m. with dismissal at 2:45 p.m.
IS TUITION PAID MONTHLY?

IS FINANCIAL AID AVAILABLE?
A limited amount of tuition assistance is available to qualifying families. Financial aid applications are available upon request from the finance office and must be filed with CFA (Confidential Financial Analysis) by June 15 in order to receive consideration for the following school year. Tuition discounts are also available to pastors, alumni of Southall/Westover Christian Academy, and to tithing members of Westover Baptist Church.
WHAT CURRICULUM DOES WCA USE?
The Elementary school uses curriculum materials by Christian publishers such as A Beka Book Publications, Bob Jones University Press, and ACSI. The Secondary school uses materials published by Christian publishers as well as philosophically conservative materials published by secular publishers. A thoroughly grounded Christian teacher is key to the success of any curriculum materials.
IS WCA ACCREDITED?
Westover Christian Academy is fully accredited by the Association of Christian School International (ACSI) and as such, is recognized as an accredited school by the Virginia Council of Private Education. It has also received its Cognia(formerlyAdvancED) accreditation.
ARE FACULTY MEMBERS QUALIFIED TO TEACH?
It is the policy of this school, K-12, to hire only committed Christian teachers that hold a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and are certified to teach. In addition, several of the teachers hold Master's Degrees. Preschool teachers must hold at least the equivalent of an Associate's degree - preferably in early childhood education or child development.
IS WCA SPONSORED BY A CHURCH OR DENOMINATION?
The school is a ministry of Westover Baptist Church yet it is also supported by other churches in our community. Within the student body, over 70 churches of different denominations are represented that hold to the protestant Christian faith-that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone for the glory of God alone.
DOES WCA HAVE BIBLE CLASSES AND CHAPEL? WHAT BIBLE VERSION DOES WCA USE?
Bible is an integral part of the curriculum at WCA and is a required subject taught daily in every grade either in a class or chapel setting. Chapels are held once a week. The New International Version and New King James Version of the Bible are used to maintain uniformity in lessons and memory verses. Other translations are acceptable for reference.
DOES WCA PROVIDE SOL OR STANDARDIZED TESTING FOR STUDENTS?
WCA does not administer SOL tests. SOL tests are part of public school instruction and assessment. At WCA, Iowa Achievement Tests and Ability Tests are administered to all students each spring in grades 1-8. The PSAT is administered to students in 10th (optional) and 11th grades. WCA students take college entrance exams (SAT and ACT) at local testing centers. Some students also take AP (Advanced Placement) and CLEP (College Level Examination Program) exams to obtain college credit for knowledge gained through high school courses. Courses (online or on campus) from local community colleges earn high school and college credit.
ARE STUDENTS REQUIRED TO WEAR UNIFORMS?
Students are not required to wear uniforms but a dress standard is enforced. In an effort to provide an environment conducive to learning, it is necessary to establish certain guidelines. Modesty, neatness and appropriateness are the basis of the WCA dress code. Compliance to the dress code standard as outlined in the Student Handbook is expected and required.
DOES WCA OFFER AN EXTENDED CARE PROGRAM?
Students may arrive at school as early as 7:30 am and be supervised until school starts at no charge. The preschool and elementary after-school care program is available for a fee each full school day from 3:00 pm to 5:30 p.m. Options include part-time (by the day) and full-time (by the week). Junior and Senior High students who have not been picked up by 3:30 pm must be supervised in an after-school study hall for a daily fee.
IS THERE SUMMER DAY CARE?
Summer Day Camp features weekly themes and a variety of activities and field trips. Registration is available on a weekly basis.
IS LUNCH OFFERED?
The cafeteria offers a lunch program catered by various vendors, a la carte items are also available. Students may bring lunches from home or purchase lunch in the cafeteria. Microwave ovens are available for warming items brought from home. Cafeteria items may be purchased with cash or lunch account. Current lunch menus and price lists are available in the school office and on the school website.
ARE STUDENTS WHO GRADUATE FROM WCA PREPARED FOR COLLEGE?
Yes. Graduating seniors score well above the national average on college admissions tests. The curriculum is designed to prepare the students for college admission. Approximately 80% of graduates pursue higher education. Our graduates have been accepted at colleges and universities such as: Liberty University, University of North Carolina, University of Virginia, College of William and Mary, Virginia Tech, James Madison University, N.C. State University, East Carolina University, University of Colorado Boulder, Southeastern University Lakeland, Pensacola Christian College, Bob Jones University, United States Naval Academy, Campbell University, Piedmont Baptist College, Radford University, and University of South Carolina.
WHAT SPORTS DOES WCA OFFER?
WCA is a member of the Virginia Association of Christian Athletics (VACA) and the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA). Sports offered for boys include soccer, basketball, and baseball. Sports offered for girls include volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, soccer, and softball. Co-ed sports include cross country. Intramural cheerleading and basketball are also offered for elementary students beginning in 1st grade.
WHAT DOES WCA OFFER IN FINE ARTS?
All students in grade 1 through grade 6 have regular art and music classes throughout the year. Courses in yearbook, drama, choir, marching and concert bands are offered to all students on an elective basis in grades 7-12. Band instruction begins in 5th grade. Private piano lessons are available. Students also have opportunity to participate in school-sponsored music festivals.
EXPLAIN YOUR OBSERVANCE OF HOLIDAYS SUCH AS CHRISTMAS, EASTER, AND HALLOWEEN.
On all holidays we emphasize the sacred rather than the secular. The use of Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny will not be used in classroom decorations. WCA does not observe Halloween, but does emphasize the harvest and Thanksgiving themes in the fall.
WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO ENROLL A CHILD AT WCA?
To apply for enrollment, an Application for Admission form must be submitted with a registration fee. Admission testing may be required. A personal interview is required for all students entering grades 5- 12. A pastoral reference form is required for the family applying for enrollment.

HOW CAN PARENTS GET INVOLVED?
Parent involvement is encouraged through Moms-in-Prayer, field trip chaperones, classroom holiday parties, lunch room, library, etc. Parents can volunteer in a variety of ways. Contact the school secretary if interested in volunteering.
DO YOU HAVE HELP FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS?
Students eligible for Enrichment Center services work with a qualified, nurturing teacher to enhance learning and to meet individual academic goals. Services include assessment of individual needs, coordination with associated community testing/provider services, personalized educational plans, and tutorial or academic intervention.
WHAT IT MY CHILD NEEDS TO TAKE MEDICINE AT SCHOOL?
Any medication or treatment (over-the-counter or prescription) to be administered at school must be supplied by the parent and be accompanied by the proper form with a parent's signature and/or a physician's signature.
HOW WILL WE KNOW IF SCHOOL IS CANCELLED?
All weather-related cancellations and delays are announced through several means: Parent text alert through RenWeb, website Live Feed, and local radio and television stations.
WHAT SECURITY SYSTEM IS IN PLACE?
In order to provide a safe and secure environment for our students, all exterior doors are locked from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A video surveillance system with 51 cameras monitors exterior doors and key areas of the building and grounds. Additionally, WCA has full-time Security personnel who monitor the campus during the school day and events. When visiting the campus, parents should enter through the glass doors at the school lobby and request access to the building by sounding the buzzer.
IS THE SCHOOL PREPARED FOR THE UNEXPECTED?
A crisis management plan is in place to give direction in the event of a crisis situation in or around the school. A Crisis Management Team (CMT) is made up of school personnel to carry out designated plans for lockdown or evacuation, as needed, and to communicate with parents and emergency services. Emergency drills are held periodically throughout the school year in cooperation with the Danville Fire Department and Emergency Services.
